Pareto Forum

Thursday, 27 May 2010
At Pareto we are considering creating an online Pareto Forum / community to allow graduates, sales people and anyone who have been through the Pareto graduate process or sales training to talk to each other and communication back to Pareto.

I would be really interested to hear if a Pareto Forum would be of interest to anyone out there.  I would love to hear what people think about the Pareto Assessment Centres, or if anyone has been to Pareto sales training.

Please email me pdrew@pareto.co.uk with the subject line Pareto Forum.

I look forward to hearing off you.

Half of new graduates feel their career options are limited

I read this amazing bit of research today that nearly half, 45%, of the final year undergraduates at 30 of the top universities in the UK feel that their careers prospects are limited.

Further more a third of the graduates thought that last years graduates (2009) would take most of the current graduate jobs out in the marketing.

And only 36% thought that they would look for a graduate job once they left university in 2010.  Also for the 2nd year in a row the graduate job salary expectations dropped to under £22k.

Managing director of High Fliers Research, Martin Birchall, said: "Final year students due to leave UK universities this summer are just as pessimistic about their employment prospects as those who graduated 12 months ago.

"The recession may be officially over, but, with a record number of students due to complete degrees in the coming weeks and tens of thousands of last year's graduates still looking for work, there is widespread concern on campus that competition for graduate jobs has never been fiercer."

However this contradicts what we are seeing out in the market with many of our clients recruiting and many cases salaries over the average of £22k.

Graduate Recruitment lift

Tuesday, 25 May 2010
Graduate recruitment freezes will be lifted at a huge number of UK companies this year, according to new research released today (May 24th).

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) commissioned a study which found that only six per cent of firms will impose a complete freeze this year, down from 38 per cent in late summer 2009.

In addition, the report claimed that only one in 20 businesses are operating a no recruitment strategy at present, compared to a figure of two-thirds 12 months ago.

Albert Ellis, chief executive of recruitment firm Harvey Nash, which compiled the data, claimed that the UK economy as a whole appears to have finally "turned a corner".
"We are seeing the first indications in the market that businesses are gearing up for a return to growth and this trend is most concentrated in the technology, financial services sectors and some areas of manufacturing," he said.
The CBI has about 200,000 members, including roughly 80 per cent of FTSE 100 companies and 50 per cent of FTSE 350 companies.
